FAQ
Why Relatious? There is already Twitter, Facebook…
Do you really want to know every detail of your friends’ mundane existence, from the time they wake up to the time they hit the sack? Frankly, we don’t give a rat’s ass if Mike is on his third cup of coffee. Or that Ann’s shoes hurt so much she may need bunion surgery. On the other hand, inquiring minds do want to know about Ann and Mike’s kiss in the office elevator. And our ears perk up when we hear Ann has dumped Mike for Bob, the department manager (and Mike’s boss). Above all, we want to be there to offer Mike our moral support, and perhaps even set him up with Carol, who’s also been lookin’ for love in all the wrong places, including the office water cooler.
Can I join with my Facebook account?
Certainly. Just hit the Facebook button on the home page and accept Relatious as an application on your profile. On your first login you will be asked to invite friends and add users you know who already use Relatious. (Yes, there are people far cooler than you who have beaten you to the punch.) That’s it. By default your credentials will be imported from Facebook. If you want to change them, just hit Settings.
Can I join with my Twitter account?
Yes you can. Click on the Twitter button on the home page and, when prompted, just accept our application. When using the account for the first time you will see a roster of all your forward-thinking friends who are already using Relatious, and you may add them to your posse. You may also invite friends to join Relatious. Your personal information — including your avatar and name — will be imported from your Twitter account.. If you want to complete or edit that info, just hit Settings.
Is Relatious free?
We have been wondering that ourselves. How can such a great service be free? But yes, access to the site is, and will remain, totally gratis. However, you should know that we have a huge tip jar on our desk, just like the one at the Starbucks counter, and we’d appreciate donations if you ever should happen upon our humble workspace. Just kidding. Sorta.
How do I add friends?
You can search for people you know by their name or username. Once you find them, simply click on “Add [username].” Done. You may also import your friends from Twitter and Facebook .
What is the public posts section?
This is where you go to see everyone’s feeds. Here we all share our interesting stories and relationship dilemmas and seek advice from others in the Relatious community. You’ll see people banter back and forth on various topics, offering their words of wisdom, or throwing in their two cents just for the hell of it. Soon you’ll be tempted to jump in, because it’s just so irresistible.
In which category should I post?
Select from the five categories in the drop-down menu underneath the post area: Dating, Seduction, Day In/Day Out, Sex, and Break-Up. We’re guessing that at least one of these categories will be of profound interest to you. If you’re still clueless about how to put on a condom and you’re tired of practicing on bananas, head for the Sex department. If you want to know how other users have dumped someone without having them go all Glenn Close on them, head for the Break-Up section. Wherever you go, you’re bound to find someone who will listen, dispense advice, or commiserate. Want to know more about the categories? Check out our Guidelines to learn more.
Who can see my feed?
Every public-posted feed is displayed in the main public feed. If you choose to have a public profile, everyone who uses Relatious can read your feed. If you’d rather not go public, you can opt for a private account, or else just post anonymously (see below) whenever you’d rather lay low.
What is the anonymous posting feature?
You can always choose to post a message anonymously, which means your post will not be displayed on your personal feed; it will only appear in the public post category you selected. It will be impossible for other users to know who posted the message. However, remember that some clever dude may recognize you anyway, either because your voice is pretty distinct or because you’re inadvertently giving away too much info. Don’t be stupid – mentioning the Elvis tattoo on your left buttock is a dead giveaway of your identity (at least for those of you who’ve seen you below the waist). Also, don’t use names, locations and specific descriptions of people and places. If you mess up, you’re on your own.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Go to your profile page and select the “Delete Account” link at the bottom of the page. All your profile information, posts, and relationships with friends will be deleted from Relatious. Remember that all of the above may still be in the cache of search engines for some time. So that post in which you mentioned doing it with your ex in your parents’ tool shed may take a little longer to die than your relationship did.
Can I save a message that was posted by a friend?
You certainly can. Simply click on “like” under the post you want to save, and the message will be preserved in your “favorites” feed. It will be there for your viewing pleasure for as long as you have an account with us.
Can I share a post?
If you have selected “Post to Twitter” or “Post to Facebook,” all your posts will automatically show up in the timeline/status of the selected service. You can also share a specific post by clicking on “share” under the post, and choosing the name of the site where you want to share it. Now many more people in cyberspace will know about your stalking habit or how your boyfriend proposed to you at a pumpkin patch.
Does Relatious have an API?
We will soon. In the meantime, you can use the XML available at www.relatious.com/username/xml
How do I choose which notification to receive?
Go to “Settings” and select on which action you want to receive an e-mail notification.
What’s a private account?
If you choose to make your account private, your feed will be accessible only to those users you approve. No one else will be able to read about your disastrous first date or how your cat spewed a fur ball on your date while you were in the loo. To make your account private, go to “edit profile” and select “private account.” That’s all there is to it.
Can I block users?
If there is a not-so-special someone you’d like to block – an irate ex or a judgmental employer – simply go to that person’s profile and select “block [username].” The user will no longer see your messages in his feed and neither will you. Whether or not you get that court restraining order is outside our realm and totally up to you. Just sayin’. However, everybody can still see your posts in the public feed. If you need ironclad privacy, opt for a private account.
I’m gay or lesbian. What about me?
If you want to show a rainbow flag at the bottom of your profile picture, go to “edit profile” and select the “Hey, I’m lesbian/gay” option.
What’s happening here?
We all love to dish about relationships. Finally, here's a place where you can share virtually every aspect of those sexy, messy, often complicated, but always interesting love connections.
